We are proud to say Old Smokey still employs the most Certified Sweeps in the State of Indiana and was one of the first in the industry to become a Certified Sweep. We are members of the Chimney Safety Institute of America, and the National Chimney Sweep Guild.

Old Smokeys is the only Certified Chimney Sweeping Company in the area that uses the Chim Scan® Video Camera System. The Chim Scan® System is lowered into a chimney to detect interior chimney failures or breaches which can be dangerous if not repaired. The camera is a valuable tool which gives us the edge over every other sweeping company in the area. We make it a priority to keep up with the technology and various changes in equipment used to sweep and service your chimney to ensure your chimney is safe for use.

In sweeping a chimney, brushes and rods are used, as seen in the picture above, for removing the brushable creosote and soot deposits. Other tools, equipment and chemicals are used to remove built-up creosote. High volume CFM air vacuums are used to help contain dust and dirt while cleaning your chimney, along with runner rugs to protect your flooring.

When Old Smokeys sweeps a fireplace chimney, we address all areas of the chimney including the firebox, smoke shelf, damper and the interior and exterior of the chimney not only for cleanliness, but also for the condition and integrity of the system. When servicing woodstoves, the connecting pipes, chimney and stove are addressed. We make certain when servicing your chimney system that everything about your system is documented to make sure you and your family are as safe as possible.

Chimney fires have been reduced in recent years because people are realizing it takes a professional who has the knowledge to recognize problems with chimneys and make the corrections to ensure a sound chimney system. The Importance of Annual Inspections:

Your chimney systems are an important part of your home heating system. The National Fire Protection Association recommends an annual evaluation of all chimneys, fireplaces and vents by a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep and cleaned as needed. Each year unsafe chimneys cause significant numbers of injuries and deaths, and account for more than $200 million in property losses.
